Cake and Candy
A humorous take on sweets with exploring the topic of celebration and nostalgia and possibly guilt? Cakes to celebrate every kind of party or gathering; beautifully made and designed by a baker or better yet, your mother’s best recipe made just for you. Whether we still partake in cake eating or not, a cake can still bring up a response, should I partake? Maybe just a sliver? Ohhh… FROSTING! Unfortunately for most, cake, and all things sugary become a guilty pleasure.
Candy becomes even more nostalgic for me because it is really a treat ensconced in my childhood. Roasting marshmallows is reminiscent of a good camping trip or maybe a night at Huntington Beach around the firepit. We still love candy but the packaging changes as we grow and mature. When guests come to the house we offer a fine chocolate truffle in a beautiful box, but why not a sour ball or pixie stick?
Making this series provided a measure of balance for me, there are many things to be concerned about in the world and the cake and candy making was a break from it. Let them eat cake!
